Studio GC began the relationship with the Lake Villa District Library by immediately saving the client millions of dollars. The initial building program for the project was done by an outside consultant and was prepared in a traditional library planning manner. By looking at the client’s goals and applying our unique approach to library design, the StudioGC library team was able to work with library staff and trustees to reduce the projected building size from the 80,000 square feet to 67,000 square feet. The resulting library met all of the service and design goals and saved the community millions of dollars.
The design emphasizes flexibility, efficiency, views to the adjacent lake and maximum use of natural light on every floor. There are many different options for sitting and reading, a favorite being around the large stone three-sided fireplace. The library opened its doors to overwhelmingly positive reviews and sets a new standard for what 21st-century libraries can be.
