Studio GC and the Midlothian Park District began the long journey this project navigated with a facility and community needs assessment in 2017. From the fact-gathering at numerous public and staff sessions, the expansion of the existing Don Preston Recreation Center was targeted as the top priority and a building program was established. Studio GC then assisted the park district in developing the concept images, messaging, handouts, yard signs, and mailers for what became a successful referendum campaign. After securing the funding, Studio GC worked closely with Midlothian Park District staff to prepare and construct a facility reflecting the amenities desired by the patrons. The new facility includes a new fitness center, elevated running track, splash pad, 3 new program rooms, 2 activity rooms, 2 preschool classrooms, and a renovated gym.
