In response to student and community concerns regarding school safety and security, the District embarked on an initial endeavor to address these concerns while also enhancing the visitor experience. During the planning phase of the project, the District and design team further identified opportunities to not only improve school safety, but also tackle additional existing challenges of overcrowding, lack of flexible, collaborative spaces, and disjointed student gathering spaces that had burdened the landlocked school for years. These planning sessions developed into a three-story, 43,000 square-foot addition and 16,000 square-foot renovation project that includes a secure vestibule, new spaces for parent/caregiver and visitor services, collaborative learning studios, classrooms, mothers’ and wellness lounges, student commons, and meeting spaces.
