The Normal Public Library, over the course of 10 years, was looking for a long-term solution for a revitalized library that would meet the current and future needs of its patrons. Initially looking at a new building, the cost made the project unfeasible. Studio GC was hired to reimagine the existing library and tackle the challenges the building would present. From space constraints to hazardous materials, the team accomplished the library’s goals through a thorough design process that ended with transformed spaces that inspire learning. Beyond the updated collection, we created seating and staff areas, a new tech center, and maker space. Changes to the program rooms and children’s discovery zone rounded out the project.
