While the wood-paneled interior of Wood Dale public library was a community icon, it was in need of an update and expansion. The library was relatively dark and the color palette was from the 1980’s. The Studio GC design team worked within the existing design context and updated colors, finishes and technology to bring a contemporary feel and up-to-date services while retaining the wood look valued by the community.
To bring additional light into the library, we designed an expansion that provides a flexible meeting room with a glass screen wall that brightens the interior. The team designed an exterior story time / reading area with a book walk to allow the library to better utilize its adjacent exterior space. The revamped library opened in late summer 2022 to public acclaim and remains an important cultural hub for the community.
